Next Round Entertainment specializes in booking comedy shows for Greek Life organizations. We've booked over 100 comedy shows for various chapters, and would love to do the same for you. We work in conjunction with Comedy Soapbox, the largest community of comedians in the world. With the ability to contact any comedian who may be traveling through your area, we're able to get you a quality show at the most affordable price you can find. Why Book A Show? Today's campus culture makes it difficult for Greek Life to survive. Because of antiquated stereotypes about what fraternities and sororities stand for, many campuses even actively thwart Greek Life's programming attempts. Every year, it gets harder to rush, fundraise, and program. A comedy night, however, is a way to reach prospective members, fundraise, and reward your current members with a great event, all while increasing your positive visibility on campus and in the community. A comedy night is not just one more party - it is a creative way to get your name out there through a non-alcoholic event that students will talk about and media will cover. Blending Your Programming A Comedy Night, when booked with the right comedians, is almost always successful because it provides a programming element that many chapters do not provide. Parties attract the same demographic over and over. Community service events do the same. But live comedy can reach a new audience - in both prospective members and in people who will respect what the chapter stands for. This way your chapter can provide something for everybody. You can also pick and choose what types of comedians would best fit your clientele. We have comedians that can be clean and comedians that can be dirty, comedians from every background and part of the country, and comedians that are of various ethnic descent. Whatever your group wants, we have someone that can fit it. At Next Round Entertainment our database of over 3,000 talented comedians includes all of these categories, plus more. Your Comedy Needs We can handle any comedy need that you may desire. We can bring comics to your campus for one show, for a monthly series, even weekly. We can provide shows with one headliner, or a several act tour. We will work around your needs. Who Are the Comedians? Our comedians have appeared on The Tonight Show, Letterman, MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, HBO, Showtime, and more. We provide top quality entertainers at every show. Every single comedian we work with is a nationally touring professional. How Many Comedians Should I Use? The best campus shows have an opener and a headliner. However, we can accommodate your budget - if you can only afford one headliner, that can be done. If you'd like three headliners to split the time, that is also no problem for us. Shows usually range from 60-90 minutes, and except when travel schedule prevents it, our comedians will always stick around afterwards to sign autographs and take pictures. How Will It Affect My Chapter? Every chapter is different, and much of the success of the event is how much your chapter gets behind it. But unless your chapter drops the ball, you'll gain:
As an added bonus, many comedians provide mailing lists at the end of their shows so they can promote themselves the next time they are in your area, creating less advertising work on your end if you have them back. How Profitable Is a Comedy Night? Every campus is going to be different, but with the right promotions, you can make your comedy night a huge success. Next Round Entertainment will assist you with ideas how to promote your night to reach highest profit potential, i.e. unique advertising strategies, dinner and a show ideas, bringing in a well-known celebrity, group sales, etc. Some chapters have made upwards of $1,000 profit on this event. With the right promotion, so can you! What Is The Cost? We can provide you comedians at any cost, but you will always be getting what you pay for. A one-act show starts at $400. And the more your budget can accommodate, the bigger acts you can draw. We recommend a $600 budget for an opener and headliner, or an $800 budget for two headliners. With just a $2000 budget, you can often get comedians that are household names. There are also many ways to save $ on the act you get - by doing a show on a Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday, or by doing an afternoon show. Also, if you team up with a nearby campus to host a show on consecutive days, you will also save a significant amount of $. Your flat fee covers the entire show - we pay for all travel and lodging expenses out of that budget. What Will Be My Contractual Obligations? Every host chapter is expected to provide a decent show atmosphere - lighting, sound, etc, as well as adequate promotion. But aside from covering a meal for the comedian, you have no other financial or contractual obligations. No surprise fees or riders - the contract is simple and easy. And Next Round Entertainment realizes that the entertainment business can be very fast-paced even for the most savvy people. Because of this, we offer an exit clause to every contract. Want to cancel the show? As long as you give us two week's notice and the cancellation fee, you are not required to pay the full value of the contract. What Will Next Round Entertainment Provide? 1) A representative will walk you through proper sound, lights, seating arrangements, and basically walk you through the steps of a successful comedy night(s).
Our goal is to find a way to make comedy work for you! Thank you for taking the time to read this introductory information, and we look forward to working with you! The Ten Steps of Having a Successful Comedy Night 1) Pick a definite date (or dates) 2) Prepare a press release. Talk to the local radio stations and newspapers about getting the comics on. 3) Get us a list of all the local media (we can provide this for you). Explain that you're dealing with a top national headliners that you'd love to set up as a guest, and also offer them space on any advertising to increase their interest in the show. 4) Get some banners and posters made up. We will offer you templates so you can easily change the information. 5) Talk to local hotels and see if you can find a good deal. The nicer the better, but don't pay more than $50 a night. See if you can get any rooms comped, again, offer them ad space. With a free or discounted room, you can pay the comedians $50 less and keep the difference. 6) See if you can partner with any local business to sponsor to raise a few bucks - you'll have a captive crowd. Many might be interested in buying ad space in a program or banner space on stage. 7) Train your members. They're your best asset during the show. They'll need to know to not heckle, to quiet those around them, and to help with seating and promotion. You have a team of people that want to work towards the same goal. Utilize them! 8) Decide on a ticket price. We'd recommend $5 for students and $8 for guests. PRE-SELL TICKETS! Do not count on people just showing up on the night of the show. You can offer a discount for tickets sold ahead of time. Many chapters have had great success in either mandating each member buy 5 tickets and resell them, giving members a piece of the tickets they sell, or a combination of the two. 9) Finalize how the room will be set up. If you're not in a theatre (which is always preferred), the setup is up to you. You don't want people to have to be embarrassed to walk to the bathroom or walk in late during the show, so bear that in mind. No TVs or loud noises or anything like that to distract, either. The more like a theatre, the better. Also bear in mind where you want the banners, if you want to have table tents, where you can post information for your next event, if there's any sort of marquee or anything out front (the more outdoor advertising you can do, the more people you get and the happier comics are when they get there). Avoid round tables and any setup that has someone's back to the stage. Walk into a local comedy club to see how they do it if that helps. 10) Create groups and events on Facebook. Use the viral nature of the site to help promote your events. Have all your members have to invite at least 20 people. The more people have the event in their newsfeed, the more likely everyone is to see it. Name the event and group “Comedy Night Featuring PERFORMER NAME” - so its clear what the event is to everyone.
